Stunning method ok with American Humane Association
The American Humane Association has approved a poultry stunning method referred to as a Low Atmospheric Pressure System. It’s a chamber in which live-haul cages are placed and oxygen volume is reduced to stun broilers. The system does not use gases.
Tim Amlaw, vice president of farm animal welfare for The American Humane Association, says the system is an important milestone in the Association’s mission to advance humane methods of handling farm animals. The technology was developed by Fort Smith, Arkansas-based OK Foods and scientists at Mississippi State University.
