Summer heat gives cheese markets a short-term boost as milk supplies tighten

A dairy market analyst says there are a couple of factors impacting short-term cheese prices.

Sarah Jungman with AgMarket.net says the summer heat has tightened milk production while protein demand has remained strong.

“While these processors are trying to secure that product to make cheese, it creates a small bottleneck,” she says. “When you have strong demand like we have now, it creates a short-term boost.”

She tells Brownfield even though production has decreased recently, the market is still working through record milk supplies.

“Every single month, production has been well above and beyond 2025,” she says. “While cow comfort has struggled, we’re still on track for a huge year of milk production.”

Jungman says strong milk production and increased consumer demand will continue to support the dairy markets this fall.
