SW Minnesota farmer: rising costs are “very nerve-racking”

A southwest Minnesota farmer is discouraged by rising input costs.

“It really does look tough, because I’ve already done some pricing on fertilizer. And they’re really scared to even give you a price, but it’s going to be higher than it was last year.”

He tells Brownfield diesel will cost substantially more than last harvest.

“You know, we don’t know what the other costs are. I know our fuel is going to be considerably higher than it was a year ago, because I bought a lot of fuel for $2.80 and we’re not even going to be close to that this year. So it’s very nerve-racking.”

Worth says he’s especially concerned for younger farmers who don’t have a lot of working capital to help get through the current economic situation.
