SW Minnesota farmer says crop conditions are better than a year ago

A farmer in southwest Minnesota says crop conditions are better than a year ago.

Chris Hill grows corn and soybeans near Brewster.

“Compared to last year they’re looking really good. Last year at this time we had 8 inches of rain all in about three days time, this year everything is growing nice. There’s not a lot of holes in the field versus last year.”

He tells Brownfield soybeans are growing a little slower than normal.

“The corn is just chugging along. We’ve had some kind of cool days early on and everything was just kind of slow growing, and now we’ve had some sunshine and some rain and it’s making everything perk up.

Hill says he and other farmers in the area are wrapping up postemergence herbicide applications.
