Take a proactive grain marketing approach

A commodities economist says farmers should be proactive marketing new crop because there’s still a downside risk ahead for prices.

Arlan Suderman is with StoneX Group.

“We’re not out of the woods by any means. We need to defend the equity built in our farms from recent years and protect downside risk by using some of the tools available.”

However, Suderman says there are likely some marketing opportunities ahead.

“As tight as world export stocks are for corn and to some extent for wheat, I feel like there will be opportunities through weather rallies down the road.”

Suderman says he’s also encouraged for U.S. soybean demand and prices as the U.S. EPA updates biomass-based diesel mandates.
