Ohio’s department of agriculture director says farmers saw challenges and successes in 2024.

Brian Baldridge says improving water quality continues to be a focus.

“We were excited in 2024 to expand that statewide and really there’s been so much engagement and conversations along those lines,” he says.

He tells Brownfield the uptick in cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza is keeping disease management top of mind for producers.

“We’re working along with our team, our state vet, and our animal health division always preparing for the worst and encouraging best management practices and bio security,” he says.

Baldridge says those are also two areas the agency is focused on in the new year.
