An optimistic look at President-elect Trump’s tariff discussions.

Iowa Farm Bureau President Brent Johnson says the tariff threats shouldn’t come as a surprise. “There is a history there, of course. We’ve seen some of that through his first administration.”

He tells Brownfield the tariff talks center around some key agricultural trading partners. “Canada, Mexico, China. We’re certainly paying attention to it. As of right now, we’re monitoring where we can actually make a real impact.”

Johnson says he’s optimistic there will be a favorable outcome for producers. “Hopefully it all translates into positive trade, moving more of our products, bringing value back to the farm gate again. That’s ultimately everybody’s expectation here.”
