Technology adoption enhanced by soft farm economy

A technical specialist says the adoption of agriculture technology is not slowed by the soft farm economy. Chad Colby believes farmers will be more productive and efficient using the latest technology.

“You can’t justify any of the technology unless it pays today,” Colby told Brownfield Ag News at the National Association of Farm Broadcasting convention in Kansas City Wednesday, “because we know that margins are so tight in agriculture today there’s no room for mistakes.”

The struggling farm economy is enhancing development and adoption of technology, said Colby, because attention is focused on spending on resources that return the investment.

“And if we can do that with fertility or our planter or whatever it might be,” said Colby, “that’s where things can really make a difference with technology.”
