Tennessee crop conditions have improved, but concerns remain

The USDA says corn is maturing nicely, and soybeans and cotton are steadily progressing, but more rain is needed. Crop conditions have improved across the board, but concerns remain about yield outlook and prices headed into harvest.

Corn is rated 55 percent good to excellent, with 97 percent silking, 82 percent in the dough stage, 49 percent dented, and 7 percent mature.

Soybeans are rated 58 percent good to excellent, with 90 percent blooming and 75 percent setting pods.

Cotton is rated 66 percent good to excellent, with 86 percent setting bolls and 4 percent opening bolls.

Tobacco is 61 percent good to excellent and 67 percent topped.

Tomato production is winding down.

Lower temperatures and better rainfall have improved pasture conditions, but just 41 percent are rated good to excellent.
