Tennessee crops: 39% soybeans, 22% cotton harvested

Hot and dry weather across the state last week allowed farmers to make significant harvest progress.  Farmers are reporting favorable yields for both corn and early bean crops, while yields for late crop beans look to be significantly less.

According to the latest crop report, 88 percent of corn and 39 percent of soybeans have been harvested.  Twenty-two percent of the cotton crop has been harvested.

Ninety-seven percent of tobacco has been cut.

Winter wheat plantings have been delayed as farmers wait for some rain and 16 percent of the crop has been planted and 3 percent has emerged.

Just 9 percent of pastures are rated good to excellent.

The lack of rainfall has depleted soil moisture and 84 percent of topsoil and 84 percent of subsoil moisture is called short to very short.
