Tennessee crops: soybeans 56% and cotton 46% rated good to excellent

Tennessee crops are starting to show signs of stress in some areas as hot and dry weather persists. 

Statewide, soybeans are rated 56% good to excellent, with 83% emerged and 12% blooming.  Seven percent of soybeans still need to be planted.  Cotton is rated 46% good to excellent, 33% of cotton is squaring and 3% setting bolls.  Winter wheat is rated 59% good to excellent and 81% is harvested. 

Pastures conditions dropped to 33% good to excellent.  The first cutting of hay is 93% complete. 

Topsoil moisture is 33% and subsoil moisture is 41% adequate.
