The president and CEO of The Fertilizer Institute says he’s urging the Trump administration to exempt Canadian fertilizer products from any tariff orders.
Corey Rosenbusch tells Brownfield, “It is important not only for potash, but even nitrogen and other products such as sulfur to not have a tariff applied to it.”
He says the spring planting window is coming up soon and U.S. growers depend on Canadian potash. “We import over 90% of our potash because we just don’t have those reserves here in the United States. Eighty-seven percent comes from Canada. A tariff on Canadian potash would have a huge impact.”
Rosenbusch says Canada accounts for 25% of all U.S. nitrogen fertilizer imports.
In a statement to Brownfield, TFI says, “TFI is a neutral party in trade remedy cases. TFI supports policies that promote a more open, fair, predictable, and transparent trading environment that empowers the continued growth of a resilient, competitive, and sustainable fertilizer industry for our farmer customers.”
