The Andersons, Inc. signs long-term lease at Port Houston

The Andersons has announced an expansion of its operations at Port Houston to increase soybean meal exports for farmers.
Matt Dvorak says as domestic soybean crush demand rises to meet renewable fuel standards, there are more export opportunities.
“We’re going to add 22,000 metric tons of storage capacity at the facility, which opens up opportunities for these crush plants to time their logistics better, which means that they can keep their doors open longer and keep crushing for longer,” he says. “This gives farmers a place to haul their grain, especially in those periods at harvest time.”
He tells Brownfield the partnership builds a stronger relationship with farmers.
“What we’re able to do is offer those people who are building new crush capacity and who have existing crush capacity a new outlet to get their soybean meal to the market,” he says. “Ultimately what that does is it works its way back upstream in the form of a better soybean bid to the farm gate.”
With storage capacity of 6.3 million bushels, the Houston facility currently supports the export of more than two million metric tons of grain annually. The expansion will include up to 22,000 metric tons for storing soybean meal for export.
Dvorak says construction at Port Houston is expected to begin in 2025.
