The cool weather isn’t over yet

The principal atmospheric scientist with Nutrien Ag Solutions says he’s expecting a volatile next few weeks of weather.

Eric Snodgrass tells Brownfield it’s windy, and the cold isn’t over.

“We have big snows coming for the Northern Plains. The Dakotas getting into Minnesota. That’s certainly on the table,” he says. “I’ve got a lot of rain that’s going to go from like maybe eastern Texas, eastern Oklahoma, eastern Kansas through the Delta, Mid-South into the central Corn Belt and east. I’m very dry in the forecast for the western plains and parts of western Corn Belt.”

Snodgrass says the lingering cold will create tight planting windows and delays, with better opportunities in late April and in May.

But, overall, he says spring is shaping up well, and he continues to monitor the developing El Nino expected during the growing season.
