The value of high oleic soybeans in dairy nutrition

An executive committee member on the United Soybean Board says checkoff research is helping farmers find new market opportunities.

Todd Hanton says high oleic soybeans are helping improve dairy nutrition.

“It’s safer to the rumen and you can feed more of it than you can a normal soybean,” he says. “It ups the butter fat for the dairy farmer, which impacts his bottom line and he gets a premium for that.”

He tells Brownfield, “It needs to be properly roasted. We’re still doing some research on the grind as far as the microns that it should be processed to for the best results in these dairy rations.

Hanton says research into expanding market opportunities is just one way farmers can see a return on their checkoff dollars.

Brownfield talked to Hanton during the 2025 Commodity Classic in Denver, Colorado.
