Thompson: a 2024 farm bill is the plan
The chairman of the House Agriculture Committee says lawmakers are going to do their best to get a farm bill completed in 2024.
Glenn “GT” Thompson tells Brownfield “I can’t control the Senate, but I think it will be helpful for the House with the work that we’ve done to pass something out of committee.”
Thompson now says he’d like to have the new farm bill moved out of the committee by mid-April and it should get floor time.
“The House Speaker is committed, I’ve just talked with him about agriculture and the farm bill, he’s committed to that. I don’t want to wait until July to pass a farm bill off the House floor.”
Thompson says there are always landmines when it comes to a farm bill and usually, it’s the nutrition title.
“I will say, it’s pretty effective as it is. It might be an area, but beyond that, I think we’ve worked through many of the issues that are out there.”
Brownfield interviewed Thompson in Washington D.C.
