Thompson: Optimistic about a farm bill in 2025
The chairman of the U.S. House Ag Committee says he’s optimistic a new farm bill will get across the finish line this year.
Glenn “G.T.” Thompson, R- PA, says the legislation continues to be at the forefront of discussions.
“We really need to be pushing through this first half of the year,” he says. “If we do that, it’s going to send positive messages to the market, to lenders. We’re going to create some economic opportunities for our farmers and our ranchers.”
He tells Brownfield farmers need the certainty of a full five-year farm bill.
“We’re listening,” he says. “We appreciate that farmers are at the table. We’ve got a great farm bill, which is not the only thing we need to do, but a great farm bill will go a long ways.”
Brownfield interviewed Thompson during the 2025 Ohio Farm Bureau President’s Trip in Washington DC.
