Three state Farm Bureau leaders meet with Trump
Farm Bureau leaders from several states met with President Trump, Vice President Pence, Ag Secretary Perdue and other leaders at the White House this Wednesday to share their trade concerns. Richard Guebert, Illinois Farm Bureau President, was one of them, “The president made some comments, generally, to the group showing his appreciation for agriculture and the support that he gets out in the countryside.”
Guebert says they thanked Trump for the trade mitigation package that has a few kinks yet and encouraged the administration’s “good work” on trade agreements, “Get the trade agreement’s done. They’ve done that with Mexico. Work on Canada, the E.U. Get a bilateral with Japan knowing that China’s going to be down the road, hopefully sooner than later that we can get something done.”
South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott VanderWal, who is also AFBF first vice president, was also there, “We talked about China and the importance of that and hoping that a deal with China could be somewhat less than a year away. So, I think those are all messages that we wanted to get through and they did hear ‘em.”
American Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall said the “great economic boom” in the nation right now is not being experienced by farmers, “That’s why it’s important for our farmers to be at the table to discuss with the vice president of the United States how their decisions are affecting farmers and ranchers across this country.” Farm Bureau says the invitation for the meeting came from Vice President Mike Pence.
