Tips for purchasing used ag equipment
An ag equipment sales specialist says farmers should look to strategize their purchases.
Tim Meyer with Sullivan Auctioneers, based in Hamilton, Illinois, says he suggests buying specific equipment needs the months leading into the appropriate season. “If you buy a combine in August or even late July, and then sell your combine after fall in December, that’s a great way to trade combines and trade heads,” Meyer said. “And that really goes for a lot of things.”
When it comes to tractor purchases, Meyer tells Brownfield, “Tractors of low hours are still going to remain strong. I don’t think we’re going to see any big bargains on those in the near future,” he said. “I think it’s the really late model equipment that’s going to be the good buys here.”
Meyer says used equipment sales have been slow this month, which has held prices steady.
