Too wet to replant

A farmer in southern Minnesota says some drowned out spots have remained too wet to replant.

Jerry Demmer grows corn and soybeans near Clarks Grove.

“I did not replant anything, we really never had that opportunity to get out there and do that because it just seemed to rain (so much). Once it dried up enough or close enough to get out there, then it would rain again.”

He tells Brownfield they are working to keep weeds suppressed on the drowned-out pockets.

“Won’t plant any oats or anything cover in there, but just manage it by being able to access (the pockets) to keep the weeds down.”

Demmer says the weather this year reminds him of 1993 and points out the safety net for farmers was much weaker then.
