Top Farmer fine tunes management skills

Purdue’s Top Farmer workshop is geared towards helping farmers fine tune their management skills.

Jim Mintert, director for Purdue’s Center for Commercial Ag says there are a variety of sessions that address different management topics in agriculture. “We set the stage by talking about the agricultural outlook,” he says.  “Chris Hurt will be talking about the crop outlook and part of the livestock outlook – focusing on the hogs.  I’ll be looking a little more at the cattle outlook, and Michael Langemeir – who is the associate director of the Center – will bring it all together looking at the management and return side of the equation.”

Mintert tells Brownfield the conference has something for farmers of all sizes.  “From a farmer perspective, if your goal is to derive a majority of your income from agriculture you’re the kind of person we’d like to see come to this conference,” he says.  “And would really find it quite beneficial.”

And, he says, ag industry professionals could also benefit from the conference’s program.

Purdue’s Top Farmer conference is July 15th and 16th at the Beck Agricultural Center in West Lafayette, Ind.
