Top NCGA priorities include next farm bill
The new first vice president of the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) says the commodity group will be working on its priorities of ethanol promotion, farm bill passage and regulatory issues. Lynn Chrisp calls that a small start because the farm bill alone contains the commodity title and conservation programs, as well as provisions for crop insurance, trade and research.
“I’m hoping that the work that we try to get accomplished here in the next year will show some real fruit in these particular areas,” said Chrisp, a Nebraska farmer, in an interview provided by the NCGA.
In communications with the Trump administration, the NCGA is “hammering home the message time and time again that we want to do no harm” in negotiating and renegotiating trade agreements.
“We continue to rely heavily upon our trade agreements and look forward to trade agreements that don’t have tariffs set up as roadblocks to out opportunity to export,” said Chrisp.
Membership polls taken by the National Corn Growers Association consistently indicate that crop insurance is the most important aspect of a farm safety net, said Chrisp.
