Trade mission highlights importance of partnership with Japan

The director of market development for Ohio Corn and Wheat says a recent Japanese trade mission is helping strengthen a long-standing partnership with the country.

Wendy Osborn tells Brownfield, “Developing those relationships with the farmer, staff in other countries, and in the United States is key to have those discussions and finalize some of these trade deals.”.

She says Japan is the second largest U.S. corn buyer.

“The biggest opportunity we have to increase demand is through corn ethanol and corn ethanol exports,” she says. “We’re really excited to send more corn and corn ethanol over to Japan to continue that relationship.”

Osborn says quality and sustainability in crop production remain critical components in trade discussions.
