Trump administration pushes agriculture deregulation to support farmers and rural growth
Members of the Trump administration say work continues to reduce regulatory uncertainty in agriculture.
SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler tells Brownfield excessive federal regulations are creating challenges for the ag industry.
“Farmers are being crushed by a massive regulatory overreach,” she says. “That’s why at the SBA we fought for diesel exhaust fluid rollbacks. Those are underway. We’re working on eliminating the burdensome requirements that our farmers, truckers, construction workers, and heavy-duty industries are facing.”
Indiana Farm Bureau president and Posey County farmer Randy Kron says removing regulatory barriers could help farmers gain access to new technologies faster.
“Some of these things are needed now, and if we could speed up that process, it would be very, very helpful,” he says. “They’re trying to look for ways to help agriculture, and I think that’s a positive.”
U.S. Senator Todd Young of Indiana says deregulation also helps strengthen U.S. agriculture’s competitive advantage.
“When given a level playing field, our producers out compete the entire world,” he says. “That’s all we want and we’re going to get it.”
Both Loeffler and Young say creating a streamlined regulatory system will help create new opportunities for the ag sector in the future.
