Trump administration set to unveil new farmer assistance package

The Trump administration is expected to announce a farmer-related assistance package this afternoon.

Missouri Farm Bureau President Garrett Hawkins tells Brownfield “obviously, everyone’s looking forward to the new, improved farm bill programs coming next fall, but we’ve got to have a way to get there and that’s why this conversation about what is going to come out from USDA is going to be really important.”

Hawkins says row-crop producers in Missouri are feeling the pinch of rising input costs and volatile commodity prices.

“They’re all having these conversations with bankers now, and these conversations are difficult, so they clearly want to know what what the administration is going to do.”

In a statement, a White House spokesperson Brownfield today’s announcement reflects President Trump’s commitment to helping farmers, who will have the support they need to bridge the gap.
