Trump, Biden outline agricultural priorities in AFBF questionnaire
President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden revealed priorities for rural America and the agriculture industry in a questionnaire by American Farm Bureau.
The candidates responded with their stances on trade, labor, regulatory reform, sustainability and climate change, and more.
AFBF President Zippy Duvall says the industry is facing many challenges and it’s critical that members understand where the presidential candidates stand on issues important to rural America.
Trump focused on his first-term accomplishments on trade deals, implementing farm bill programs, and working to streamline the current H2A program. He highlighted a commitment to a science-based approach to regulation and says any new sustainability or climate requirements must be science-based and not result in tighter profit margins for farmers.
Biden focused on sustainability and improving rural communities. He says he’s committed to building a more resilient and sustainable economy and investing in agriculture and conservation. Biden says his administration would also rebuild the middle class, work with farmers to achieve net-zero emissions, and rely on experts for policies and regulation.
Other topics on the questionnaire included: food system resiliency, farm policy programs, tax policy, energy, endangered species act, clean water, biotechnology, and rural life and health.
For the past 40 years AFBF has asked every presidential candidate to provide responses to issues that will likely impact farmers and ranchers for the next four years.
