Trump continues tariffs using different tools following SCOTUS ruling

Friday’s Supreme Court decision on President Trump’s tariffs has not ended tariffs but will significantly change them.

The high court said Trump could not use the IEEPA, or International Emergency Economic Powers Act tariffs as part of his trade policy, but the President says he has other ways to impose tariffs. Trump told reporters, “The good news is that there are methods, statutes, practices, and authorities as recognized by the entire court in this terrible decision, and also is recognized by Congress, which they referred to, which are even stronger than the IEEPA tariffs that are available to me as President.”

Josh Linville with Stone X tells Brownfield it appears Trump will continue certain exemptions to the tariffs. “So far, from what we have read, from statements from DC officials, from statements from the President himself, it does appear that fertilizers will continue to be exempt from tariffs.”

The White House also says certain agricultural products, including beef, tomatoes, oranges, and critical minerals will be exempt from new tariffs.

Trump announced Saturday he would issue new and legally permissible tariffs worldwide at 15% during the next few months and is considering other “licensing fees” for foreign traders.
