Trump to hear about high-tech agriculture during Iowa visit
President Trump will be in Iowa later today and part of his itinerary involves agriculture.
Prior to a speech tonight in Cedar Rapids, Trump will visit Kirkwood Community College to draw attention to advancements in high-tech agriculture. Kirkwood has the largest two-year ag curriculum in the country with a special focus on precision ag technology.
Trump will be joined by Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross as part of the administration’s “technology week”. Addressing the American Technology Council earlier this week, Trump talked about the importance of science, technology and innovation.
“It’s so important. My administration is embracing a new spirit of innovation that will make life better for all Americans,” said Trump.
Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue told farmers in Iowa last month that Trump “gets it”.
“He understands that American agriculture is vital to the U.S. economy. And, he understands that technology and science is vital to U.S. agriculture,” Perdue said.
A White House official says Trump will also make an “important announcement” while in Iowa on how he wants improved internet connectivity to be part of the infrastructure effort he is working on with Congress.
Brownfield’s Ken Anderson is in Cedar Rapids to cover Trump’s ag-related remarks at Kirkwood Community College.
