Trump seeks Trade Promotion Authority extension

The chief agricultural negotiator with the US Trade Representative’s office says President Trump’s request for a Trade Promotion Authority extension will benefit agriculture.

“To seek an extension until 2021 and aggressively use that authority to negotiate revised trade agreements so they are fair, balanced, and support American prosperity,” he says.

Gregg Doud, who was sworn into office this month, says the fast-track approval will help the administration negotiate free trade agreements and improve trade deals by….

“Building coalitions with other countries to support sound regulatory policies for new technologies and in some cases not regulating these new technologies if that is appropriate,” he says.

The USTR says the administration will continue renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement and the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement.
