Turkey hatchery trend stays below a year ago

Turkey supplies will likely get tighter in the coming months.

The USDA says 24.592 million turkey eggs were in incubation at the start of April, a drop of 6% on the year, partially due to de-population caused by the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza.

21.086 million poults hatched during March and 19.449 million entered meat production, both up from February, but down from a year ago.

The USDA projects 2025 U.S. turkey production at 4.89 billion pounds, with the next guess out May 12th.
