U.S. and China holding face-to-face trade talks
Face-to-face trade talks between the U.S. and China resume this week. U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin will be in Shanghai for negotiations with the Chinese Vice Premier Liu He Tuesday and Wednesday.
Neither side appears optimistic about ending the year-long trade war. President Trump told reporters Friday he believes China would prefer to wait to see if he—Trump—is reelected in 2020.
China announced last week they were ready to negotiate with American ag product suppliers. Chinese state media claims millions of tons of tariff-exempt American soybeans have been shipped, but exact amounts have not been reported.
