U.S. corn stocks expected to tighten in 2025
U.S. corn supplies are expected to tighten in 2025.
Joe Barker with CHS Hedging says old crop ending stocks are around 1.9 billion bushels and falling, mostly because of good export demand.
“So we’re going to need good production for 2025, maybe 92, 93 million corn acres with a 182 yield just to reach our demand.”
That would be the second-highest national average corn yield on record.
He tells Brownfield drought will probably be a major factor next year.
“If you were to look at the Drought Monitor today, the drought conditions that started in August and September and persisted throughout this early part of winter, there’s plenty of reason to think 182 might be a little optimistic into what the final yield would be.”
Barker says the corn market will be watching the USDA Outlook Forum in late February for the first acreage projections for 2025.
