U.S. ethanol demand could grow as U.S. negotiates trade deals

The CEO of the Missouri Corn Growers Association says he’s optimistic a trade agreement from the G7 Summit could benefit U.S. corn producers.

Bradley Schad says there are opportunities for U.S. ethanol as Japan increases the ethanol blends in its gasoline to 10 percent by 2030.

“I was part of one of the first trade missions that went over there with the U.S. Grains Council on ethanol close to 10 years ago now. It’s exciting for me to see that come to fruition and hopefully, trade agreements come to fruition across the globe. We’re excited to work alongside the Trump administration to make sure that happens.”

He says the United Kingdom and other countries could also increase their ethanol use.

“We’re looking at all of these countries who could go to a 10 percent ethanol blend like we have in the United States and some of the countries could go to a 20 percent blend.”

The United States is expected to talk trade during the summit with some of the countries involved. G7 Summit countries include the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and Japan.

The summit wrapped up in Canada on Tuesday.
