U.S. House passes Farm Bill 2.0, E15 to be considered in May

The U.S. House has approved the skinny farm bill.
DaNita Murray with the South Dakota Corn Growers Association says she was watching closely an amendment dealing with glyphosate and the uniformity of pesticide labeling.
“I believe when it comes to the question of actually being able to pass the farm bill on the House floor has been that Republican-led amendment regarding glyphosate.”
House lawmakers voted to remove pesticide oversight provisions from the bill today. Murray says an amendment to remove language on Prop 12 in the farm bill wasn’t allowed, so it’s still in the bill.
Consideration of a separate bill addressing nationwide, year-round E15 has been delayed. Murray says while that likely changes a plan from lawmakers to connect the farm bill and E15, she tells Brownfield…
“My take is not so much that E15 becomes more difficult or that it’s being pushed further away. It’s that clearly meaningful progress needs to be made. I mean, the mid-size refiners have a degree of heartburn over the compromises that have been reached by Hill.”
House Ag Committee Chairman Glenn “GT” Thomspon said on the House floor the E15 legislation is expected to get a vote on May 13.
The skinny farm bill will now be sent to the U.S. Senate.
