U.S., Japan to talk later this week about trade
Momentum is expected to pick up this week in bilateral free trade agreement talks between the U.S. and Japan. A report in Agri-Pulse says President Trump is scheduled to host Japanese Prime Minister Abe at the end of this week. A White House spokesperson is quoted in the report saying the two leaders will explore ways to advance their shared vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific region. That includes steps to strengthen a bilateral trade relationship between the two countries, according to the spokesperson.
U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer met recently with Japan’s economy minister, who is likely to accompany the prime minister for this week’s trade talks.
Talks are also scheduled to continue next month when President Trump goes to Japan for meetings with Prime Minister Abe.
