Under Secretary Taylor comments on upcoming GM corn panel decision
The USDA’s Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs says she’s optimistic about an upcoming panel decision on Mexico’s ban on genetically modified corn imports.
Alexis Taylor tells Brownfield, “We know and believe quite strongly the science is on our side. I think we’re on track to have that panel decision very soon.”
She says she’s pleased with the work from USDA and the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office throughout the process. “USTR is the lead as this is a very legal process and case under USMCA. USDA is heavily involved on the technical and science side. We provide a wealth of technical expertise.”
Mexico’s ban was issued in early 2023 and the U.S. Trade Representative filed a dispute settlement under the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement last August.
