Uneven soybean stand concerns

A southern Ohio farmer says he’s concerned uneven soybean stands could impact this year’s crop.

Greg Corcoran says weather continues to be the biggest challenge.

“Some places are getting a lot of rain,” he says. “We’re starting to see a lot of unevenness in the field. You’ll see areas that where there’s standing water and the crop is suffocating in those conditions. Other places where they’re not getting as much rain, the sandier soils, those crops look good.”

He tells Brownfield rising costs and tighter margins are making it more difficult to stay afloat.

“When you sit back and you look at the prices, where they land, where they are right now, and you start looking at futures, unless you’re bringing in a big crop, it’s going to be tough to make a profit this year.”

Corcoran raises corn and soybeans in Ross County.
