Unifying the voice of dairy
The dairy checkoff says the entire dairy industry is working to create a unified voice on social responsibility.
Dairy Management CEO Tom Gallagher tells Brownfield in the next six months the Innovations Center for U.S. Dairy will begin a collaborative effort to improve consumer trust. “We’re a very big industry, but if we act individually and give different messages and give absence claims to market against each other instead of the completion, we’re undercutting our self.”
He says the effort is meant to discourage the industry from using absence claims like antibiotic-free and focus on transparency and social responsibility. “Building that trust is important to protect farmers’ right to farm and ability to farm.”
Gallagher says the checkoff is starting the conversation by meeting with thought leaders to help them understand the dairy industry and answer common consumer concerns.
