Up and down harvest so far in Minnesota
Minnesota farmers are experiencing some ups and downs as harvest ramps up.
Ag Commissioner Thom Petersen says a very wet spring has resulted in an odd growing season.
“We’re getting into some of the edible beans. Really finishing off that wheat harvest has been tough, we’ve had some good pockets of wheat but we’ve had some tough parcels where farmers struggled with low protein, sprouting, and issues like that.”
He tells Brownfield the sugarbeet harvest is going much better.
“Those look pretty good, the pre-piles started in both parts of Minnesota, and the potato harvest looks good. But corn and beans, I think it’s going to be interesting when we get in there and we see what those look like.”
Petersen says Minnesota is not expecting a “bin buster” given the weather challenges this year.
