US poultry and egg exports booming
US poultry and egg exports have seen significant increases in 2021.
Greg Tyler, Chief Operating Officer for the USA Poultry and Egg Export Council tells Brownfield the industry saw exports increase in 2019 and 2020 when more consumers turned to poultry as the pork industry struggled with African Swine Fever.
“We are expecting an increase of about 20% in value over the 2020 levels and we will probably hit some records in a lot of our markets worldwide.”
He says they expected some challenges through the pandemic, but access to the Chinese market and fewer global trade issues have helped the US reach about 125 global markets.
“The total broiler export quantity for the first nine months of 2021 has set a record of close to 2.8 million metric tons and a lot of that has to do with our exports to markets like Mexico, Cuba, The Philippines and Guatemala.”
In the first three quarters of 2021 egg exports have also increased by nearly 20% to 264 million dozen with a 45% increase in value to over $241 million.
