USDA details economic impact of cooperatives

The USDA has released results of a new study detailing the national impact of cooperatives. It shows that more than 29-thousand American cooperatives generate revenues of morethan 654 billion dollars and employ more than two million workers.

The report listed total income for the cooperatives at 133 billion dollars, with wages paid totaling 75 billion dollars.

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says the report provides a moredefinitive view of the role and economic strength of cooperative in the U.S. economy. He says cooperatives serve as “economic engines and innovators” for rural America.
