USDA increases 2025 beef, broiler guesses

The USDA has raised its outlook for 2025 beef and broiler production.

Beef production is now pegged at 26.685 billion pounds, up 120 million from February on heavier dressed weights, with an average steer price of $201 per hundredweight, down $1, and higher import and exports against lower domestic consumption.

Pork is seen at 28.425 billion pounds, down 105 million on a slower slaughter pace, with an average barrow and gilt price of $63 per hundredweight, a decline of $1, and cuts to imports, exports, and consumption.

Broilers are estimated at 47.7 billion pounds, an increase of 75 million due to producer margins and hatchery data, with an average price of $1.31 per pound, a penny lower, no changes to imports or exports, and a reduction in consumption.

Turkey production is expected to be 4.925 billion pounds, a decrease of 45 million because of hatchery numbers, with an average price of $.96 per pound, down one cent, and lower imports, exports, and consumption.

Egg production is projected at 8.885 billion dozen, falling 75 million due to the ongoing impact of highly pathogenic avian influenza, with an average price of $4.24 per dozen, $.20 less than last month, and larger imports against smaller exports and consumption.

The USDA’s next round of supply and demand numbers is out April 10th.
