USDA invests $10.7M in opioid response in 22 states
The USDA says it’s investing nearly 11-Million-dollars in 22 states for opioid abuse prevention, treatment and recovery.
In Illinois, the Jersey Community Hospital district is getting funds to purchase and renovate a building to serve as an opioid treatment program.
In Iowa, funds will go for equipment and supplies to combat opioid misuse and drug overdoses in a half-dozen communities.
In Michigan, funds will go for equipment and supplies to combat opioid misuse and drug overdoses in several rural communities including Oakland, Burt Township, Manistique, Sault Ste. Marie, and, Missaukee and Sanalac Counties.
In northern Minnesota, the Clear Waters Life Center, a substance abuse treatment facility, will receive USDA funds for upgrades.
In Missouri, funds will go for equipment and supplies to combat opioid misuse and drug overdoses in several rural facilities: Big Springs Medical Association, Great Mines Health Center, Queen City Housing Association, and the West Carter County Ambulance Association.
In Nebraska, funds will go to the Hope Crisis Center and the Village of Harrison to enhance opioid abuse education and treatment.
In Wisconsin, Menominee County Human Services Department will upgrade a building into a “safe place” and mobile crisis team location.
Anne Hazlett, assistant to the Ag Secretary for Rural Development, says the USDA is “committed to being a strong partner to rural communities in planning and building local responses” to the monumental challenge of the opioid epidemic.
