USDA: red meat, poultry supplies tighten on demand, processing speeds
Solid demand and slower production during February pulled red meat and poultry supplies lower.
The USDA says there were 834.466 million pounds of red meat in cold storage at the start of March 2026, with pork and beef stocks both seeing 5% year-over-year declines.
The total poultry stocks were also 5% below a year ago at 1.036 billion pounds, with a 2% dip in chicken and a 13% drop for turkey.
The USDA’s updated annual red meat and poultry supply and demand outlook is out April 9th.
