USDA releases more info on $1B specialty crop farmer aid program
The USDA has released more details about its $1 billion one-time farmer aid coming to specialty crop and sugar growers due to high input costs, market disruptions and export losses.
The Assistance for Specialty Crop Farmers Program (ASCF) is designed to support commodities not covered in the Farmer Bridge Assistance Program. Eligible crops include fruits, vegetables, nuts and others like herbs and greens. USDA says producers must report their 2025 planted acres to the Farm Service Agency by 5 p.m. eastern on March 13 to qualify.
Payments will be based on reported 2025 acres and commodity specific payment rates are expected to be released by late March.
The USDA says dry edible beans and peas already covered under the FBA program aren’t eligible for this program.
