USDA says Trump to send team to China
President Trump is sending his Treasury Secretary and U.S. Trade Representative on a trip to China over trade tariffs, “We’re having Secretary Mnuchin, Bob Lighthizer, heading over to China at the request of China and we’re having very substantive discussions on trade.”
USDA’s Jason Hafemeister told farm broadcasters President Trump’s strong position with China has given the U.S. a lot of leverage but admits there’s a lot of volatility in the markets, “You see in the market is people placing bets. You know, if they think the tariffs more likely maybe they want to cover their position. Maybe if they think the tariff is less likely then they’re willing to not cover a position.” Hafemeister is trade counsel to Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue.
