USDA says U.S. will import more eggs

The USDA says the United States will temporarily import more eggs to help reduce costs at the grocery store.
An agency spokesperson says Turkey has committed to increasing the number of eggs they send the United States from 70 million to 420 million this year. And the USDA says there’s interest from other countries in sending their eggs to the United States, but certain safety considerations must be in place before that can happen. The agency says increased egg imports are expected until prices are reduced.
This action is part of a five-pronged approach recently released by the agency looking at short-term and long-term solutions for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza.
