USDA sees rise in wheat production
The USDA is projecting a bigger wheat crop in 2024.
Total production is seen at 1.971 billion bushels, an increase of 9% from 2023, with a lower rate of abandonment, and an improved yield thanks to better weather in some areas. Planted area for 2024 was pegged at 46.079 million acres, with harvested area of 38.469 million acres and an average yield of 51.2 bushels per acre.
That includes a winter wheat crop of 1.349 billion bushels, 9% higher than last year, with an average yield of 51.7 bushels per acre, a gain of 1.1, with a spring wheat crop of 542.32 million bushels, up 8%, with an average yield of 52.5 bushels per acre, a jump of 6.5.
