USDA winter wheat crop guess slightly higher

The USDA has modestly increased its expectation for 2025 winter wheat production.

The crop is now seen at 1.382 billion bushels, 25,000 more than in May and 2% above 2024, mostly due to an improved yield.

The projected yield for this year held at 53.7 bushels per acre, which would be 2 bushels more than last year.

The hard red winter production guess was down less than 1% at 782.306 million bushels, with soft red winter up less than 1% at 345.326 million bushels, and white winter production 1% higher at a combined 254.003 million bushels.

The most recent USDA national weekly crop progress and condition report showed 4% of winter wheat had been harvested as of Sunday, compared to the five-year average of 7%.

The USDA’s next winter wheat production projection is out July 11th.
