USDA’s Lindberg tapped to lead World Food Program

Luke Lindberg, USDA Undersecretary for Trade and Foreign Agriculture Affairs, has been nominated by the Trump administration to lead the World Food Program.
In a release, the U.S. State Department says Lindberg brings exceptional qualifications to the UN-backed organization. The Department says Lindberg’s strategic vision and geopolitical insight will be critical to deliver emergency food assistance.
In his USDA role, Lindberg oversees the McGovern-Dole Food for Education Program and Food for Progress program and has helped restructure the Food for Peace program.
It’s expected the interview process could take several months, and the appointment will be formalized by the UN secretary-general.
In February, Cindy McCain said she would step down from the executive director post.
